Cover art for Friends of the Phantom no. 16
based on a scene from the Phantom movie

Harold 'Fred' Fredericks was born on August 9th, 1929.    Fred has been the official Mandrake strip artist for over 30 years and is now the current Phantom Sunday strip inker.

Fred became the Sunday inker approximately nine months after Sy Barry's retirement in 1994, taking over from another unknown artist.

During the 1980s, Fred drew Star Comics' Defenders of the Earth comic book series and a number of the Defenders of the Earth colouring books.

Although Fred is now recognised as the official Phantom Sunday inker, he actually drew the dailies for one week in June 1996 when Keith Williams was given the week off.  The image below is from June 7th, 1996, the day the Paramount Phantom movie premiered in the United States.

Recently, Fred has added the Phantom into a number of the Mandrake strips.  The scene below is from the story about Mandrake's wedding (at which the Phantom makes an appearance).  The Phantom has also appeared in these strips on television and even on the cover of a Frew Phantom comic.

Fred's work will also appear as a print by 99.94 Editions and on the packaging of the new Phantom action figure from Flatt World Figures.
