The Phantom comic strip was created by Lee Falk, and first appeared in American newspapers on February 17th, 1936.  The character was the first masked/costumed hero ever, pre-dating Superman, Batman and Spiderman.

Throughout the 63 year history of the Phantom, many writers, artists and actors have come and gone, yet the appeal of the character remains the same.  His adventures have appeared in comics, novels, serials and even a feature movie.

Today, the comic adventures are published regularly within Australia by Frew Publications and in Scandinavia by Egmont.  It has been estimated that the newspaper comic strip has a daily readership of around one hundred million people in over twenty five different languages.
